this is my favorite part about the kate spade brand— their partnership with women for women international is truly and deeply inspiring.

a peek at our wfwi team in rwanda, crafting some totes for spring.
through our partnership with wfwi we are employing women in war-torn countries, utilizing their traditional handcrafts in special collections, designed by the team in new york. we are so glad to be able to provide training, fair wages and dependable income in parts of the world where these opportunities are not the norm

lrntm asked: I'm on the 23rd of 31 pages of your blog and I'm obsessed! You have inspired me to become a prop stylist/creative director!! How did you get started? Your blog is absolutely amazing... I can't get over it.
thanks, lauren! isn’t tumblr the best???
there is a link to a little interview at the top of my tumblr that i did with nicole from a little sussy blog… definitely check it out for insightful tips— i share how i got started and what got me to prop styling from graphic design in the first place. but my trajectory 8 years ago isn’t very usual for how people probably need to get their foot in today. my recommendation is to find all the prop stylists whose work you love and inquire about assisting and interning. it’s tough out there, but with drive and determination, if you really want to style and you truly believe it is the perfect fit for your skillset, keeping at it will get you somewhere. oh, and being in nyc or l.a. is probably a must.
unfortunately i’m not taking interns or new assistants at the moment as i’m about to have a baby (any day now!), but i wish you lots of good luck!
all the best—

have you guys seen club monaco’s new inspiration pin-board-type blog? it feels like a tumblr archive! i like how diverse their posts are due to having guest posters galore from around the industry.
i’m just finishing up a little consulting gig with them and everytime i’m in their offices, i feel so inspired by all the fashion that’s on racks everywhere. their color palettes and fabric textures are quite sophisticated for spring and fall 2011 (breaking away from that strict black and white they’ve been known for).
